No Child Left Behind Makes A Failing Grade!
During 2002, the Federal government, through Act of Congress, enacted a controversial No Child Left Behind Act(NCLB) . This system was intended to improve the primary and secondary school student’s knowledge, mainly in the fields of English as well as math. Although this is an admirable objective, the build of the plan has hit a brick wall to bring the desired gains. Several educators have laid the fault on the approach laid out inside the No Child Left Behind method. With its concentration squarely on English and math, pupils, teachers and administrators face a task which imposes punishments if the objectives are not met.
Such punishments have the type of rescinded Federal financing, which makes a catch- 22 type of condition. Even the funding which is appropriated has not been received by the towns. This has been typical practice since the inception of No Child Left Behind. In 2002, approximately$ 4. 2 billion dollars which was appropriated never arrived at the states. In 2007, this money gap grew to an astonishing$ 14 billion dollars! To add to the financial woes of the school districts, states all over the united states were suffering funding shortfalls in revenues, due to the state of the general financial system.
It resulted in several states discovering it necessary to generate budget cuts in several sections, such as, you guessed it, education! Despite the fact that schools are required to administer regular tests in English as well as math, the testing protocol of No Child Left Behind does not extend to other topics. Some schools were forced to drop alternative subjects from their curriculums if they were to sustain the Federal funding. This doesn’t seem like a beneficial overhaul of our educational organization.
