Why use both Gmail and Thunderbird?
A. You get a brilliantly simple email solution!
The Gmail Thunderbird combination offers you the best of both worlds: the best of webmail and the best of an email client. See the video on Thunderbird Sync
If you use webmail such as Gmail or Gmail, you will know the problems: using photos is painfully slow, logging in and out of multiple accounts is a pain and you can’t even read your old emails unless you are online. This can leave you stuck without important information.
Yet webmail is brilliant in that you can access it from anywhere. There is no need to lug a laptop everywhere, all your email is available wherever you are.
And using an email client such as Apple Mail gives you a different set of advantages and disadvantages. As with any email client, it’s nearly impossible to work on anything other than one main computer because all your email is downloaded to that one computer.
The system of webmail access that people currently use is limited because you only get your new emails and when you’re back at your main computer you have to re-read and re-sort your emails. But the benefits are that using attachments is extremely quick and easy, you don’t have to keep logging in and out and you can work on your email without being connected to the internet.
There are so many posts and videos about switching from Gmail to Thunderbird or (migrating|changing|switching|moving|swapping} from Thunderbird to Gmail but we’ve found the key to using both so you get all the benefits of webmail and all the benefits of an email client.
By sync’ing Gmail and Thunderbird your email system will be really easy:
If you have several computers, all your email will be automatically synchronized across them all
You still use Thunderbird on your own computers allowing you access without logging in, simple attachment handling and the ability to access your email offline
On another computer you can manage all your email through Gmail.
Why Gmail and Thunderbird?
I recommend this pair as it is the simplest to synchronize and as a bonus you get automatic contact synchronization as well. For more detail on this solution see Thunderbird Sync
